Meet Carla-Joy

About Carla-Joy

Carla-Joy is proud to call Texas her home for more than 13 years. Her background is deeply rooted in community service and activism that extends over decades. Simply put, she is passionate about helping others, especially the underrepresented, and that can be seen throughout her life experiences.

Carla-Joy started her career in San Antonio, Texas, as a supervisor for the CPS Energy Community Utility Engagement Program, housed at Alamo College. She taught members of the San Antonio community how to save money on their utility bills. She then continued her career as a public servant.

Carla-Joy volunteered for several years on COVID response teams and was awarded a medal for her service.

Her other volunteer work includes feeding the homeless and serving in homeless shelters during weather emergencies, teaching life skills at youth detention centers and prisons, and going abroad on mission trips. She helped to develop programming and training for women suffering from domestic abuse and violence.

Carla-Joy has been teaching and training for many years. She was also the co-founder of a nonprofit that serviced youth at risk for alcohol and drug dependency for over twenty years. She then expanded the program to include several alcohol and drug recovery transitional houses for single parents with children.

Carla-Joy founded a mentoring program for high school and college students and serves as one of the mentors.

My Education Background

Carla-Joy has an undergraduate degree in Finance, a degree in Spanish Literature, a Teaching Certificate from Harvard University, completed master's-level Psychology courses at the University of Pennsylvania, and also completed Project Management courses.

Upon graduating from college, she worked in the finance industry for several years but left the private sector to work in the non-profit and public sectors.

She served as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Pennsylvania, assisting with curriculum development, and as an Office Manager at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she saved the department $400,000 through contract renegotiations.

She served as a Customer Service Escalations Supervisor at a public utility, where she managed and successfully closed 2,500 customer complaints per month. She also recovered over $300,000 in uncollectable debts

What I Stand For

Carl-Joy has made it clear that she is not running for office; instead, she is interviewing for the District 2 open position on the City Council. "I want to work for you!"

My Vision

My vision for District 2 is that together we can create a short term and long term plan to take us to a better future.
